Microsoft's Windows Phone Series 7 Looking to Revolutionize Digital Music

It has been over 6 years since the then-CEO of Microsoft Bill Gates confessed that Apple had managed to catch the firm "flat flooded" as far as the digital music market went, and he then directed his team to make up for the lost time and ground, and the result was the Zune.

Till now, Microsoft's forte in the digital music world has been the Zune player and the Zune Pass subscription service, which has managed to garner mostly positive reviews, but few customers, much less than Apple's iPod. But with the very latest Windows Phone 7 Series OS, Microsoft seems to be back on track to derail Apple music players, and hopes to boost its struggling strategy for digital music.

Even the mainly well-received Zune HD, which hit the markets in last fall, has not been enough to convince music lovers to switch from iPod to Zune. As has been confirmed by Microsoft, only 3.8 million players have been sold since 2006. Also, Microsoft has only about 2% of the American portable media player market, compared with the 70% share of Apple.

With Microsoft making it a priority to expand the Zune service to other platforms, it introduced the same to Xbox Live in November, and now, it is an art of the new mobile operating system.

"Anybody who gets a Windows Phone 7 Series phone is going to get a Zune within that device", said Zune Communications Director Jose Pinero.
